Beginner Quilting

$40.00Price

This pattern is called "Hop, skip & jump"

1 All day class from 9am-6pm (or until were done!)

In this class you will make a simple yet stunning, slightly larger lap size quilt. Blocks measure 12.5" x 12.5" so they grow fast! Finished size of the quilt is aprox. 52 x 67". *Class size is limited to 3 people. You are required to purchase your own Quilting Cotton Fabrics.

Quilt top WITH large setting stones as pictured below: (setting stone is the large block that is cut from a single peice of fabric)
For Blocks:
1. 5-9 different fabrics cut at 1/6 of a yard or 6 inches. (I used 9 in mine and you will have some leftover fabric)
2. 1 medium to large print fabric cut at 3/4 yard for setting stones.
3. White fabric for center stones, sashing & inner border 1 1/2 yard. (you can use a color OR print if you don't want to use white. I think a larger scale print like that one pictured is best.)
4. 1 coordinating fabric for outer border 1 yard.

5. It doesnt hurt to get a few extra cuts of fabric in case a cutting error is made.

For quilt top WITH OUT large setting stones you will need 5-9 different fabrics cut at 1/3 yard instead of 1/6. Everything else stays the same. It doesnt hurt to get a few extra cuts of fabric in case a cutting error is made. Quilt will be the same size as the one with setting stones, you will just be making more blocks.

Supplies used: Sewing machine, cutting mat, rotary ruler, rotary cutter, pins, cotton thread, a bobbin & extra machine needles, scissors. If you have your own, please bring them. If not, please check the box at checkout.

  • What fabrics go where

    •  your 9 different fabrics will be used in your actual block that has the 4 sides of differnt fabrics.
    •  A setting stone is when you have 1 piece of fabric used in place of a block that usually alternates. In my picture I used the large floral print and put them every other block. This works great for larger prints so you don't cut up the pattern on the fabric too much.
    •  In the center of each block is a white square called your center stone that you will be placing your prints around.
    • The white strips in between every block is called sashing and it just separates the blocks.
    • *The white on the outside of the whole quilt top is you inner border because it is the first of two borders. By adding the white around, it ties in with the sashing to give the whole projects a more completed look. *In the current picture I don't have the inner border on the quilt yet.
    • your 1 1/2 yards of white or color of choice will be used for all 3 items: center block, sashing & inner border.
    • The outer border is like a frame to a picture. Visually it is nice when you make it wider than the inner border just like a frame outside of a mat on a picture frame. That is why we are cutting it at 5" vs. 3.5". *In the picture I do not have the outer border on yet.
    • Have fun picking all of your beautiful fabrics. I can't wait to see all of them!
